Urgent Care Clinic at Eastman Dental

To address the region’s increasing need, Eastman Dental, of the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Eastman Institute for Oral Health, today opened a new urgent care clinic on the concourse level of its main site at 625 Elmwood Ave.

Eastman Dental Urgent Care is the only dedicated urgent dental care facility in the region and can accommodate up to 60 patients a day. Services include treating adults for acute tooth and gum pain, dental infections and abscess, broken teeth and other dental trauma, or any urgent dental issues.

Care demands and dental emergencies have increased significantly with the limited access to dental care in the community, leaving an overwhelming unmet need for early and regular oral health care. As a result, Eastman Dental has long outgrown its space and was last year awarded a state grant to build the urgent care clinic and other renovations at the Elmwood Ave. site and Eastman Dental Downtown to increase capacity and upgrade facilities.

The clinic offers seven private treatment rooms, cone beam x-ray technology that provides 3D imaging with exceptional detail, and intraoral cameras and monitors in each room to allow patients to see detailed images of their dental problems, enhancing the educational experience. English and Spanish-speaking receptionists are on staff all day.

A majority of Eastman Dental patients have no regular source of dental care and depend on emergency clinics for their dental needs. “The new clinic not only improves our services, but also represents an opportunity to increase understanding about the importance of preventive dental care and oral health,” said Eastman Dental Urgent Care Chief YanFang Ren, D.D.S., Ph.D., M.P.H.

“Research strongly indicates a direct link between oral health and general health, and people who rely on emergency clinic for their dental care are also more likely to rely on hospital emergency rooms for their medical care,” said Cyril Meyerowitz, D.D.S., M.S., director of Eastman Institute for Oral Health. “It is our goal to help patients understand the importance of disease prevention and make the transition from the urgent care system into the primary care system for their dental as well as general health needs.”

Eastman Dental Urgent Care is open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. No appointment is necessary, but patients are encouraged to call to schedule a same-day appointment. Most insurance plans, cash and credit are accepted. Call 273-2465 for more information.

Eastman Institute for Oral Health is a world leader in research and post-doctoral education in general and pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. Patients are seen at many sites throughout the Rochester community.

I am in serious need of dental work. I went to Aspen Dental for a free visit and was advised that I would need over $7,000.00 worth of work done. Yes you read that right 7K. I only have a temp job, I have no dental insurance cannot afford it being I am a single woman 57 years old with diabetes on a limited income. I will also be losing my health insurance once my divorce is final. Never qualify for anything! I had two caps that have long fallen off and the remaining tooth is breaking and I have severe pain, both on the upper toward the back. What would it cost to get a cleaning and be advised how to take care of these broken teeth. Some teeth are turning black and that really scares me. Could you advise what options that I would have or where I can go to at least get some of this resolved without losing my apartment and having to live on the streets. Thank you for your time.

I have two back teeth on the upper left side. I had fillings in when I was 15 and now am 49. I need to get new fillings, they are leaking and I have a metal taste in my mouth and it is becoming very painful. I get out of work at 4:30pm and work at strong, I was wondering if I got out at that time would they still be able to see me in urgent care. This has been going on for 2 weeks and getting worse and all other denists want to do is a cleaning, that is not what I need right now.

    • ekettell says:

Yes, we are able to safely accommodate pregnant patients. We would first need to receive medical clearance from your OB/GYN. Please call 275-5051 to schedule an appointment.
