By participating in the 5th Annual Monroe County Services Fair, Eastman Dental took advantage of the opportunity to network with numerous other agencies and service providers and to share information of community resources and preventive programs.
Eastman Dental was one of more than 45 programs spanning 25+ agencies there to help educate the 250 community service providers who attended about the wide variety of programs available to assist children, individuals, and families who live in MonroeCounty.
“Some were surprised at the specialty services we offer, the many insurances we accept, and the locations in the community,” said EIOH Social Worker Lenora Colaruotolo. “Many were relieved to understand our ability to safely treat women who are pregnant and who are often turned away from receiving oral health care until after their baby is born. And some were unaware of the first tooth or first birthday recommendation for a baby’s first dental visit.”
Colaruotolo was at the fair along with Edgardo Zuniga, DDS, AEGD resident and Daniel Seetin, DDS, Pediatric Dentistry resident. Together they spent the morning discussing oral health care with service providers from preventive service agencies and professionals from community agencies dedicated to offering programs for infants, children, adolescents, and at-risk adults including the Rochester City School District Early Childhood Department, Monroe County Health Department – Early Intervention; WIC; Nurse Family Partnership; Perinatal Home Visiting Program, Bivonia Child Advocacy Center, Parents As Teachers, Incredible Years Parenting, RAMP, ABW, Better Days Ahead, RAPE Crisis, Planned Parenthood, BOCES, Building Healthy Children, FACT, Compeer of Rochester, Hillside Work Scholarship Connection, Facilitated Enrollment Program (CCSI), and Rochester Public Market.
In addition, brochures including information about dental services and Eastman Dental clinic sites, visual aids, and complimentary toothpaste and toothbrushes were distributed.
“It was rewarding to hear from agency and program staff about their personal and their client’s positive experiences at Eastman Dental,” Colaruotolo added, “along with their appreciation for Eastman Dental’s special emphasis on community service.”
Sponsored by the Monroe County Preventive Coalition, and the Rochester City School District Early Childhood Department, the fair was held in the historic Stardust Ballroom at the Edgerton Community Center.
